Nduki Estate is a small farm in Gitwe, Kiambu County. It is home to Hannah Kiyo Ndugu and John Ndungu Maina, an elderly couple who have been producing coffee for 20 years. Hannah has a small shop by the courtyard where people in the village can buy bread, sweets and eggs. John is a retired primary school teacher and coffee is a big part of the couple's pension plan.
On the small farm, 4,000 coffee trees grow. All coffee is picked, peeled, fermented and dried on the farm. The drying time is 12-14 days depending on the weather; Hannah and John keep a close eye on the weather to cover the coffee in the rain and the hottest hours of the day. We immediately stuck to the coffee's fine fruit sweetness and pleasant softness. It has a milder acidity than most Kenyans, which made it stick out from the coffees we usually buy from this amazing country.
